It's like folks comparing athletes from different eras. Their game changed as did the dominating metas. Been doing this 25yrs+ and the floor for players is higher now but they're also mentally weaker and tilt more than ever. They drop hate tweets and tears instead of combos now.
Respectfully, every era had/has tough competition. No doubt about it. Money was not a major factor to bring in more players or make competition harder in fighting games. We built a scene/culture from scratch welcoming people of every background to compete as equals. This is.

It really is remarkable. An awesome opportunity to highlight someone's skill but people are so insecure in themselves that they have to turn it into something that helps them win an inconsequential internet argument that they think will make them relevant.
Best player in the world pulling off some of the hardest stuff in the game in an exhibition match and instead of pushing the hype his fanbase is rage baiting.
