I feel like it’s really important to note that the universe the sidestories take place in functions as the “control group” for all the other universes. Meaning the girls we see in + are the ‘real’, authentic versions of themselves, and not the archetypes we see in the base game
Since it was heavily implied in + that DDLC was never supposed to be a dating sim, but a real world simulation createdwiththesolepurposeofobservingwhatbecomingself-awaredoestoaperson/theworldaroundthem, I wonder what that non-dating sim universe (w/sentient Monika)

Watching the ddlc side stories and then watching act 1 of the first game always has me saying“she would not fucking say that” “she would not fucking say that” “she would not fucking do that” “she would not fucking do that” and ig that’s the point

After all, what was the point if they weren’t even real? Why bother connecting with them? Why bother learning about their individual interests? Why bother with the club at all? It’s just rlly shitty all around 🥀

Also it’s interesting that in the 1st game, Monika’s vision of everyone in the club getting to freely express themselves is just. Poof. Even in Act 1 they aren’t truly allowed to be themselves, +Monika’s epiphany probably made it all seem even more trivial to her.

I really like going back 'n rewatching the ddic side stories to see what little differences in continuity/characterization it has from the main game. It's especially interesting because of how the emails contextualizes them as the "control group" for the simulation they’re all in

LAST THING I SWEAR , I find it odd that therapy didn’t cross MC’s mind at least once, considering that it’s usually *the* go-to treatment for depression. Instead he was all like “I’m the one that knows what’s best for you” even though he rlly didn’t. And it’s not like it’s not a
Like, one thing that I’ve always found ironic is how Monika, of all people, was able to clock that Sayori was (at the very least) troubled after 1. reading just ONE of her poems and 2. Knowing her for like, a day (DDLC+). That's because unlike MC —and I mean this literally-shes

GNG IM SORRY I worded this like Monika and Sayori’s development in + was immediate, it wasn’t. It wasn’t even rlly on Sayori’s terms (not entirely Monika’s fault) +it’s not like opening up was easy for Sayori either, she says multiple times that she hates herself for doing so
