Coming up at 10am in 519a: @i_neylan presents an ambitious (fully factorial!) experiment examining within vs. trans generational effects of thermal stress on thermal plasticity across two populations of Tigriopus copepods. https://t.co/Nf8d92gEO0

After a lot of hard work, a lot of years, and so much help from co-authors, collaborators, and volunteers our work exploring the legacy effects of OA on red abalone is finally out!! Thanks to everyone who made this possible @Dr_DanSwezey @AbaloneQueen @CASeaGrant
Stressful childhoods can affect an individual’s adult years and influence future generations. Research from @ucdavis, led by @I_Neylan, found a similar pattern for red abalone exposed as babies, and again as adults, to the stress of #oceanacidification: https://t.co/1BZb5KN7Ht

Gratitude to @ucdavis for highlighting recently published research led by @I_Neylan @AbaloneQueen and myself looking at the effects ocean acidification on abalone across generations. Cumulative stress from OA threatens these species and growers should take steps to mitigate.

Hearing @iraflatow talk about our research on @scifri about the use of non-invasive #ultrasound to assess the reproductive state of #abalone was the best! @JacksonAGross @I_Neylan @KristinAquilino @ucdavis @ucd_cmsi @bodegamarinelab @ucdavisCAES @Sonosite @USPacificFleet

Great piece by @wudanyan in the @NYTScience covering our work using #ultrasound technology to assess #abalone reproductive health. Grateful to collaborate w/ @Kristinaquilino. @Sonosite @JacksonAGross @USPacificFleet

To bring abalone back from the edge of extinction, scientists need to find improved ways of coaxing the snails into reproducing.

“When I first saw the #ultrasound images of my kids, I saw the future of my family,” she said. “When I see the ultrasound images of these #abalone, I see the future of an entire species.” Dr. @KristinAquilino in @NYTScience
A new study uses noninvasive ultrasound to determine which abalone will be reproductive. The technique could raise the prospects of successful captive breeding efforts and ultimately help restore endangered abalone in the wild.

Read about the noninvasive ultrasound technology that's helping scientists determine when #abalone are ready to spawn in @NYTScience, from a study in @FrontMarineSci by @ucdavis researchers @AbaloneQueen, @I_Neylan, @JacksonAGross, & Laura Rogers-Bennett:

Have you ever seen an ultrasound of an #abalone? An #ultrasound transducer can be used to quickly and noninvasively detect when abalone are ready to spawn, minimizing handling and stress for the animal. Read more from @ucdavis news: https://t.co/rCoBULQ6QB 1/3

I'm late to #Crustmas. Here is little hermit #crab that recruited in my system as a larvae. Without access to a shell, it was clingy to the side of the bioreactor. Many thanks to @I_Neylan for the shells to pick from. Apparently, this one is just right. @bodegamarinelab

A huge thank you to my collaborators @Dr_DanSwezey @AbaloneQueen, @CASeaGrant for funding, and all the many volunteers who made this project possible. Excited to see what else these data have to tell us!
Congratulations 🎉 to @I_Neylan for winning Best Talk in the area of applied #ecology at @WSN_Secretariat 2021! Isabelle's talk, "Long-term effects of #oceanacidification on red #abalone (Haliotis rufescens) growth and performance" can be viewed here:

Check out Seraiah’s blog on kelp forests and climate change! And stay tuned for more posts in the coming weeks from our amazing 2021 @SantaRosaJC interns!!
Over the summer Seraiah Reis, a student at @SantaRosaJC, worked with mentor @t_winquist in the SRJC-BML Internship Program searching for information about factors that make #kelp forests more resilient to #climatechange. Read more in Seraiah's guest blog: https://t.co/TRUeZBofW3
