New piece from our study PIs. The ⬆️ prices of infant formula must be addressed. We are in a cost-of-living crisis and many families are currently in very vulnerable positions. Infant and child health is at risk should we see an increase in practices like watering down formula.
Why are baby formula prices so high and how can this be tackled? Feeding one baby with infant formula for one year in Ireland costs between €780 to €910. By @LizOSullivanPhD @Kennedy_ails @WeAreTUDublin @samantha_a_h @QUBelfast @c_patton_ @Law_Leeds

Rising costs of infant formula are an issue in Ireland too, though the data haven't been presented as usefully. How about we introduce a cap on pricing? There's precedent there. It's been done before in Ireland in the 80s:
Want to know why big name formula brands are so expensive? It's NOT because they are better quality, it's because they spend $$$ on advertising and want to recoup their costs (and make $$$ profit). #formulamilk #costofliving #commercialdeterminantsofhealth

📢📄 New paper published by 2 of our PIs. This paper clearly highlights the need for an infant and young child feeding in emergencies preparedness plan for Ireland. Important for the protection of all families, regardless of how they're feeding their babies.
Want to know how parents coped with breastfeeding & formula feeding during COVID in Ireland? New article from @Kennedy_ails and I describes how BF parents struggled without in-person support, & formula feeding parents feared shortages. https://t.co/l07ZbEtLVX

Thank you, @Kennedy_ails for sharing the work conducted in 2020 that led to the present project. The COVID-19 crisis really highlighted that Ireland is vulnerable to emergencies also and we need a plan in place. #IYCFEIreland

Fantastic... especially as @QUBelfast are hosting our 1st conference tomorrow. Our project focuses on developing an infant & young child feeding in emergencies preparedness plan for Ire. Central to that is the protection, promotion, and support of breastfeeding. Bravo, QUB! 🥳🤱
@QUBelfast has officially joined the ‘Breastfeeding Welcome Here’ scheme! This new membership represents a huge support network to breastfeeding mums who are working, studying or visiting the university. To find out more, visit https://t.co/j8vaYzXzo3
