In their pediatrics lab, 1st year students engaged in the occupation of play last week! Students had the chance to feel like a kid again by playing with a parachute, legos, and board gamesπ²πͺ

Students presented their Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) projects this past week! LEND is a graduate-level interdisciplinary leadership training program that bridges the university to the community. Congrats to these students!

IU OT students participated in a CarFit event this past Sunday led by 3rd year student, Haley Instenes! Haley has focused her doctoral capstone on integrating CarFit into IU OT. CarFit is designed for older adult drivers to check the fit and safety of the car!ππ

We want to take a moment to welcome Dr. Melinda Kurrus to the IU OT faculty! Dr. Kurrus is a 2004 graduate of IU OT has been a practicing OT for 20 years primarily in hand therapy and in the work/industry rehab setting. We are so excited for Dr. Kurrus to begin!

2nd year students visited Superior Van and Mobility in their Older Adults class last week! Students learned how vehicles can be adapted for wheelchair and mobility users and what OT's role is in this process. Thanks to all who work at Superior Van and Mobility!π

Students had a great time at the IOTA day at the Capitol! IU PPOTD student Christy Kiesel shared a presentation on Women's health in OT and the impact we as practitioners can have on this population. Thanks to all the board members who organized this great event!

Students and faculty with an interest in airport accessibility had the opportunity to take a tour of the Indianapolis airport! They visited the sensory room, nursing mothers lounge, and service dog room. Thanks to the employees for allowing our students and faculty to visit! π«

Our second years are starting the year off strong in their Orthotics and Older Adults classes! They worked on creating wrist immobilization orthotics and practicing cooking tasks in their lab sessions this week π¦Ύπ₯

In their Community- Based Practice in OT class, students worked on various projects with local organizations. Students working with The Chris Center, a therapy dog program aimed at improving teen mental health, got to meet some of the therapy dogs!

Our students celebrated early with a soup-er celebration last week! Thanks to our amazing faculty who brought in a variety of different soups and desserts for students! We hope everyone is having a a relaxing break with friends, family and loved ones!

Second year students had a visit from local Marines and Toys for Tots this morning working on making adaptive toys! These toys will go to Riley Hospital for Children, Eskenazi Hospital, and local schools for children needing more accessible toys π§Έ
