What do you think is the most expensive hardware component of a robot?.

One of our resident technical wizards; controlling our DFB series #ArchimedesDrive at 400 cycles / minute & sub arc-minute repeatability. Can he get it to 600? Imagine just what your delta or SCARA robot can do with 10 full-stroke picks every second @Yaskawa_Motoman @FANUCAmerica

Big day for IMSystems - the team has worked so hard for so long to get to this point. We absolutely cannot wait to bring our new production online and start shipping units.

How does this all relate to @IMSystemsNL . Our #ArchimedesDrive does a few things *really* well:. Our drives can run 10s of millions of cycles - many years of operation. 2. They're almost indestructible in the even of a collision. 3. Each drive is fully load bearing - wheel ready.

Finally, because there *are* so many units deployed in one place, the sticker price ends up mattering quite a bit, too.

You also are faced directly with the challenge of power efficiency - every charge cycle costs you time & it costs you money. Every kg of battery that comes out of the robot saves you money to not buy & gives you more payload capacity to use.

. like a welding robot @BMW - but because the total cost of ownership is the key decision factor in committing. A even a *slightly* higher downtime rate between platforms can cost big money to a warehouse - or even worse - to the robot supplier, needing to service their units!.

As any maintenance shop at a big work site can tell you, something that is a minor problem to fix on *one* broken unit, is incredibly expensive when you have a fleet of hundreds. So AMRs & AGVs need to be *very* robust. Not because if one unit goes down, it crashes an entire line.

Those cute boxes on wheels need to carry a *lot* of weight, and aren't always treated with alot of respect. Not only that, but their tend to be a *lot* of those units deployed in any one location.

That will go on to define the usefullness of the system in the field. This isn't just the big ticket items, like the sensors & nav system. It also covers the base mobility platform.

These guys *seem* like a pretty simple concept? Omni directional steering, nav system & an OS, right? Not so fast. While much of the industry focus is on the software differentiation of the companies, at their heart, the robotic base station bakes in many of the capabilities.

These are your @6riversystems @MobileIndRobots @clearpathrobots @SwisslogInspire or @LocusRobotics . Friendly little bots that haul stuff around inside of a warehouse or other 'complex logistical environment'.
