When a new source of taxation is found it never means, in practice, that the old source is abandoned. It merely means that the politicians have two ways of milking the taxpayer where they had one before. H. L. Mencken.

The financial system, the monetary systems as well as regulation, favor the politically connected and the already wealthy, effectively punishing poor and middle classes.

In a free market, the gov’t should not dictate pricing. Instead, encourage more competition to drive down pricing and break private or state monopoly. One day, the government would ask lawyers in Ghana to price lower because Nigeria and Sierra Leone have lower legal fees.

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), and Ghana water company Ltd (GWCL) are state-owned. The Cedi has appreciated against the Dollar, respectively, the Hon. Ministers should ask for price reduction.

Two different things here:.The price justification to the dollar by DSTV was market-driven. This time the Cedi appreciation to the dollar is state-controlled. You cannot state-control the cedi and expect the market to respond to it immediately.

If you can’t afford the DSTV, enjoying GTV. It’s a choice. Stop the state-enforced price control!.

The solution is competition and not a price legislation. Have more and different DSTV companies and to compete for efficiency and subscribers. Again, Price competition and not price legislation.

The eradication of poverty often remains as the responsibility of the national governments. This has resulted into more people being pushed into poverty. State interventions are problems in themselves.
