Despite these globally accepted rules applicable in times of war, there are far too many breaches and violations, causing severe and unnecessary human suffering and eroding those fundamental principles. Much more must be done to enhance compliance with the Geneva Conventions.

Today at a diplomatic conference in Kyiv, we commemorated the 76th anniversary of the Geneva Conventions and reflected on what International Humanitarian Law means for the people profoundly affected by the ongoing International Armed Conflict.
