Wondered if anyone in my network could share - I am interested in the feasibility of a career move to Australia, academia or industry! Would appreciate some insights and would love to chat to anyone who has made the move! #academictwitter #Australia

I’ve set myself my biggest challenge yet (because a PhD wasn’t enough) - I will be running the 2025 London Marathon with @TheBHF to give back to this amazing charity that supported me throughout my PhD and continues to fund life saving research ❤️ https://t.co/3EkBnbqg6A

This is telling. Labour has not won. The Tories lost and the SNP have lost, whilst Reform and the Greens have won, and the LibDems have been exceedingly organised. But Labour has not won hearts and minds. Not in the slightest.

It was an honour to welcome His Majesty Emperor Naruhito today as part of the Japanese state visit with @JAPANinUK 🇯🇵🇬🇧 The Emperor met Crick staff with personal connections to Japan and heard about the wide range of research happening at the Crick.

The UK is a leading place to do science, with UK scientists behind many breakthroughs – from the first baby born by IVF to the first vaccine. Now, it’s time for an incoming UK government to build on these strengths by investing further in research and development (R&D) 👇 [1/3]

As you watch the Aurora this evening, it’s worth reflecting that you’re getting a rare direct glimpse of the power of Nature. Those charged particles causing the atmosphere to glow came from a sunspot complex 17 times the diameter of Earth and traveled across 90 million miles at

Call me old fashioned but it really worries me how conclusions are drawn about signalling so strongly from RNAseq data with absolutely no confirmation at the protein level - We’ve known for a long time now RNA does not = protein. #AcademicChatter

Look, I am sick and tired of this narrative that PIs are soooo busy they don’t have time for their own grad students, despite grad students (and post docs ) being responsible for the majority of a lab’s research experience, and so GS have to go out of their way to make sure 1/

Profs, it is LITERALLY YOUR JOB to meet with your students and provide feedback. If you are unable to do the absolute minimum of your job, you should not be a PI. Yes, grad students should be proactive about their PhD. But again, advising phds is literally the PI’s job.

The UK thesis system is exhausting… 3 results chapters, each with their own separate introduction, separate discussion, sandwiched between an overall introduction and an overall discussion…. HOW IS THERE MORE TO INTRODUCE AND DISCUSS?!

Okay, once the final gut punching rush to the finish in the lab has passed, I am actually quite enjoying writing my thesis! Am I broken? #AcademicTwitter

I don’t suppose there is a reference out there to show that 384-well cell culture plates have different mechanical characteristics than 96-well plates? #AcademicChatter #AcademicTwitter #phdlife #phdvoice
