So…when do you start feeing like an attending and not just a resident who was left unsupervised?.

Figured I’d repost this since interns are approaching the end of their first week of residency and may be feeling a bit overwhelmed.

Have fun. You’re living the dream a former version of yourself fought so hard to make a reality. It’s here. Make the most of it.

Be the best doctor you can be at your current level of training. You’re not a 3rd year chief resident or seasoned attending, and no one expects you to be. Give yourself enough grace to meet yourself where you are, but always set the bar high.

People don’t remember medical details, they remember how you made them feel. Even when giving bad news (cancer diagnosis, death of a family member), you can do so in a way in which they look back and are grateful for the kind doctor who really cared for their loved one.
