Medical education: pulmonary embolism? Think S1Q3T3 Reality: S1Q3T3 is neither sensitive nor specific for PE. Sinus tachycardia is the most common EKG finding. T wave inversions in the inferior and right precordial leads are most specific for PE.

When preparing for a big exam, I like to start my day with a question bank. Then I take a break for lunch and do more questions. In the afternoon, I do another set of questions. Then, to relax after a long, hard day of doing questions, I do more questions.

Remember SSSS by adding a few more letters: SSSSSSH • Staphylococcal • Scalded • Skin • Syndrome • Sloughing (+ Nikolsky sign) • Spreads Hematogenously • (Put it all together and you get “ssssssh”, like you’re shushing a child because it occurs mostly in children)
