How many times have you heard writers and editors say we need more rigorous criticism and less cheerleading? I wrote an essay that 'brings all the receipts' to bad novels getting published. It was rejected 20 times until now:

When I sent my books to ThriftBooks to sell, they said they would not pay for one of them because it was in unacceptable condition. (It was in good condition.) Today I just checked their site, and the book is listed, but how do I know if it was the one I sent?.
