My son Reese is with me this weekend and he brought some movies with him to keep us entertained. Here's one of them. I have no idea where he got this warped sense of humor.

I was looking at what happened on this date in history. One, Willie McCovey hit his first HR this day in 1959. George Brett got his first MLB hit on this date in 1973. Perhaps most importantly to me, Thurman Munson, the Yankees catcher and captain, died on this date in 1979.

I was looking up references to Ryne Sandberg on Twitter tonight and found this article on a prospective site for Triple-A ball in Ottawa.

My uncle Barry and I golfed at Hawkesbury today. I learned a lot about raking and the proper care of sand traps. Here's a shot I took near the end of the round, from the old and now unused back tees on the 18th hole. Beautiful course.

He was a brilliant mathematician but that's not how I became aware of him. In the 60s and 70s, CFRA would play comedy at 3am. I would stay up for it. Some nights, they would play Tom Lehrer. He was a satirist and songwriter. Smart and funny. He died yesterday. He was 97. RIP.
