#OOTW three! Blue oaks (Q. douglassi) are the most common oak in CA, and are found in dry areas. They get their name from their bluish leaves, which are soft and shallowly lobed. These slow-growing oaks can live 600 years and are currently having the hardest time regenerating.

On Friday night we lost our oldest and fiercest protector. Nate was 14 years old and protected against coyotes, mountain lions and bears.. Nate never met a child he didn't accept a head scratch from or a fence he couldn't jump. We will miss you old boy.💔

We've had a second incidence of our sheep being harassed by stray dogs. Last month we lost one of our flock to this. We love dogs @hoplandrec, appreciate all the great dog owners who keep their dog under control. Here's our guardian dog "Sawyer" who works diligently to protect.
