From last night: No. 10 @HoopsMonroe beat No. 15 Gig Harbor 62-33 to advance in the Boys 3A State Tournament. It was the first state playoff win for the program in over 30 years, but you wouldn't know from the postgame reaction Story for @HeraldNetPreps:

The win improves the Bearcats to 15-8 on the season and sets up a winner-to-state game on Saturday against Mount Vernon. The game will tip at 2:00 PM at Marysville-Pilchuck HS. GO CATS!!

Senior Ethan Hogan led the way for the Bearcats, scoring a team-high 21 points while adding 9 rebounds and 4 blocked shots. Sophomores Chayce Waite-Kellar and Caleb Campbell grabbed 15 and 8 boards respectively to help Monroe to a 12 rebound advantage on the night.

Monroe used a 20-6 advantage in the third quarter to overcome a 4-point halftime deficit and keep their season alive, downing Shorewood 57-48. The Storm Rays cut the lead to 2 in the final quarter, but the ‘Cats held firm, never relinquishing the lead and closing out the win.

With the win last night, Monroe (14-7) advanced to the double-elimination portion of the WIAA District 1 playoffs, and will take on 4th seeded Shorecrest on Friday night. A victory would put them in the semifinals and just 1 win away from a 3A state berth! LET’S GO CATS!!

Monroe watched a late lead slip away, but survived a final Panther possession to force OT. In the extra period, ‘26 Wyatt Prohn knocked down 2 free throws with under a minute left to give the ‘Cats a 2-point lead they would not relinquish.
