I kept seeing this book here and in local bookshops, and told myself that sometimes it’s okay to pick up something easygoing and light. But I just can’t finish it; the author is far too present and pedantic in the most basic sense.

Definitely one of the coolest looking Arabic manuscripts I've come across so far- a 1540 Ottoman manuscript containing three grammatical works, each with insanely artistically shaped marginal commentary written using ghubār ("dust") script (BnF Arabe 4166):
