QUAKE vibe. Literally. E1M1 slightly modified running with #raylib with custom collision detection and camera smoothing on steps. #quake ❤️‍🔥🪓

Quake vibe. Here’s how the actual collisions look like. Bounding boxes to the rescue. #quake #raylib

Quake vibe again. Added some discard for textures to remove “magenta” pseudo-alpha thing. #quake #raylib

Sometimes I think that it would be easier and maybe even more fulfilling to just write your own little engine to make a game instead using those molochs. #handmake #gamedevelopment.

Hello, I'm trying a new thing in terms of global illumination in #raycaster I've been thinking about using cellular automata and heat transfer to transfer light through a game level. This works for floors only and there is no bounced light but I'm working on it! #retro

I'm experimenting with a per pixel lighting with my #raycaster and it's gonna kill performance like hell - but will be cool :) #retro #gamedev

It’s strange that this tweet has so much attention (relatively compared to my typical “none”). I’m really happy. Looks like people still love retro :) … and head bobbing.

Every #raycaster engine looks better with an oldschool head bobbing! #retro #gamedev

Why do you hate me engineers from ‘90?! Skrew these! (skrews).

Keyboard is superb! Trackball not necessarily but I’ve already have a PS/2 mouse for it. I’m genuinely impressed how well this is preserved.

So I’ve bought a #retro 486DX2 LAPTOP (!) because nostalgia. But I wouldn’t be myself if I wouldn’t try to write some code on it for VGA. Unfortunately floppy drive is dead and PCMCIA doesn’t see my FC - but I’ve already ordered floppy drive simulator for it. Fun! #486

Apparently for "modern" IDEs a ~400 line .cpp file (no classes, just purest C functions) is "too complex to perform. " whatever this means.

Of course there is no filtering applied so lightmaps looks blocky as hell. Also: Lightmap texture is as big as wall texture (64x64) but probably will be smaller when I'll finish light baker.

I'm testing of light mapping for my #raycaster. Looking better and better tho it's not a finished thing yet. Light baker is in progress and proper assigning of a Lightmap should be implemented. But hey, no one said I know what I'm doing :) #programming #Retro

I've been looking for proper lighting solution for ray caster engine and looks like Radiosity is the best choice. Discrete nature of the "patches" matches pixelated env greatly. There is a great article on it on web: #DunEd

I'm going to document my progress on that #raycaster engine here on X. It probably be wise to set a proper tag for it. Maybe #DunEd (Dungeon Editor) ? Looks nice. I really love that retro rendering techniques. It shows how much of a determination developers had in those days.
