Hey, fellow Rootless! You can read my new story "Forever the Forest " in #LifeBeyondUs now, and I posted some story notes. Take a look if you want to know what I learned about trees and why I needed to employ my translator mindset for this one. https://t.co/Ncv8yt3zTF

For those of you still here and on double duty: I have ventured into the azure expanse, too - same name, same handle. I'm going to look for you over there!

Olaf Scholz, solar punk? I … I might have seen the punk suffix used in way as pointless as this before, but I can’t seem to remember it right now.

New neighbor says hi! Moved in in May, handsome but slightly awkward, doesn’t get along with Corvids.

When you go stargazing in Munich, it almost tricks you into believing it’s real… (but even better: later in the night I saw Saturn’s rings! 👀 )

Late to the party, but if you have the tiniest bit of interest in manga/anime or even just in the impact of culture & history on narratives, this is a must-read (and Ada Palmer sharing her knowledge is always sparking Mitfreude anyway!)

So, meeting some fun history and SFF concepts, those are our goals, plus some mitfreude, and the vorfreude of knowing that, forever after reading this, you’ll get more richness out of every time so…

What a beautiful day to crawl out after two months in my translator’s cave and emerge into a birdless wasteland filled with blue-fanged vipers.

If night-shift taxi rides with strange & shady passengers in Tokyo are able to grab your attention, do yourself a favor and watch "Odd Taxi"! I'll be here for a while and recover from the way the narrative threads are reeled in at the end.

Whyyyy would you have a word like “biannual’ that can mean BOTH twice a year & every second year??? They are not here, these contextual clues my very helpful dictionary keeps mentioning.

Also, I presume in birdspace no-one can hear you scream, because they’re also having some „moments“

Someone once stated about my writing that I "resist unnatural exposition stubbornly" or something like that. And there are days when I wonder why I am doing this to myself ...

Reading great, critical analyses of art can be such a joy. Seeing someone get it, and then more, bring out insights you didn't see but are now obvious, put in words some you did see, but didn't know how to articulate. That's an art in itself, critical art analyses.

>> I love (space) whale stories! Communication with whales is notoriously hard to write, and "Deep Blue Neon" and "The Lament of Kivu Lacus" are two very different & successful examples, playing with form and emotional punches.

"Defective" by Peter Watts drives you ever deeper into the dilemma of its cleverly introduced protagonist and shows that the most important question in sf is not "what if?", but "then what?!", and the answer is written in beauty and terror.

"The Sphinx of Adzhimushkaj" by Brian Rappatta features a grumpy protagonist with a "grab science funds to make art" life concept, which is disturbed by a new apprentice (and no, they're not the alien). A fun and glowing story about changing perspectives!
