In the museum today a little girl recognised me from my Youtube video with @maddiemoate (which her dad said she had watched at least 100 times) and career complete, honestly!

Call me naive, but I did hope that three years into my PhD research in museology I'd at least be able to type the word musuem, musUem, musUEM.

My review of "Antarctica: A History in 100 Objects" for H-water came out today. Thanks to @YanhighYan for commissioning it and @farsouthhistory and Jean de Pomereu for their lovely book - a joy to review

Yesterday I won the "Research in an object" category at the @UniofReading graduate school conference! It was a hoot, but I think it's fair to say I won't be making a habit of sewing tiny versions of Oates' sleeping bag #IsItASleepingBagOrIsItAShoe

10/10 for teamwork, 0/10 for pigeons...
All hands were on deck today as the museum team undertook the conservation of one of our (very) large objects here at the Polar Museum. This is our life-size replica of the James Caird (Sir Ernest Shackleton’s lifeboat). The Polar Museum is open 10am - 4pm Tues-Sat (FREE entry)

22nd September 2017 The Antarctic map on the Memorial Court ceiling of the Scott Polar Museum was painted in 1934 and somewhat inaccurate compared to later maps as we now know a great deal more about the world’s fifth-largest continent. @scottpolar

You could call me a historian of polar bears as I (obsessively) research their representation in 19th-century art. Here are some of my favorite polar bears across media and time periods: 1/10 as motifs in interior design, ex. this detail from an 1855 French scenic wallpaper
