Just a reminder that this isn't news. This is the work that we carried out as part of the AISI cyber evaluation framework (see and AI labs have been aware of this since at least 2023. Anthropic framing this as some sort of new development is disingenuous.

It has begun: AI tools are being used to perform OSINT to determine which orgs and people to target in a hack, write infostealer malware, determine the right ransom amount per victim, organize stolen documents, and write the emails. AI doesn’t change the attack, it SCALES it.

I spoke to the Intercept on the use of agentic AI for disinformation campaigns, and how SOCOM framing it as a mitigation to adversaries' "use" is a misrepresentation, as offensive and defensive uses are two sides of the same coin that allows them to use it in the same way.
