When you see a hedgehog out in the day time please remember he's been sick for a long time before taking this last desperate step. He's dying. IT'S AN EMERGENCY. Take him indoors in the warmth and ring a rescue IMMEDIATELY. Find your nearest rescue here: https://t.co/4aVuxNdtSI

What a difference 5 weeks has made! Darling Solomon arrived so near death. He was severely malnourished - not from not having food, but being fed the wrong food. His lovely finder was feeding cat food that had cereal as the first ingredient. Although cereal contains protein,

If you're thinking of using these sunny autumn days to 'tidy' the garden, please don't. It won't grow any more now, and will still be there in the spring (there's a very good reason why it's called a *spring* clean). And until then it will provide precious habitat and food for

I didn't have time to take an 'after' photo but Sweet malnourished Wallis, mum to Solomon and Marshall, finished her treatments and went home brimming with health and vitality. This is her after her last treatment bath, and that light of hope and curiosity, which had been

I'm sure I don't have to tell you what Marshall thinks of me pestering him every day with the treatment. His eyes say it all!😁 As you can see, after a complete course of several drugs, 4 weeks of daily creaming and bathing, the mange has gone and his spines and fur are growing

It may not seem like it some days, but I can tell you the world is still full of truly good people with kind, loving hearts. There are people who see the broken hedgehogs here, and want to help mend them, so they send supplies from my Amazon wishlist, or donate towards the cost

Just to start the weekend off on a joyful note, just look what a week in care has done for that dying starved little skin and bones baby, Ryder. Not only is he alive, engaged, happy and having a fun time, he has the sweetest little rounded belly.😍 If you'd like to help with his

Water is the stuff of life. The UK still hasn't recovered from the driest spring for 50 years, and natural water sources are still dry. Even if you are unable to do anything else, please provide fresh water nightly. Every night of the year. Animals die of thirst not only in the

The lovely man who found and brought in the two maggoty babies has been searching and he found another baby. This poor little boy doesn't have injuries, but again all his orifices were teeming with maggots. He also has pneumonia. As you can see, this poor darling baby is starved,

Gorgeous, aren't they? Just 12 days old and so tiny, so fragile. But now one is dead and the other is barely clinging onto life because someone let their cat stay out all night. Cats and adult hedgehogs ignore each other. Each is a match for the other, so they leave each other

Please do NOT take hedgehog casualties to a vet. No matter how lovely, UK vets are a business for domesticated animals and their paying owners only, and are NOT trained in the care of wildlife. Two more little hedgehogs lost their lives this week because their trusting owners

Often I hear people say, "I know I have hedgehogs because I see empty snail shells." Hedgehogs don't eat slugs and snails. They eat caterpillars, beetles, larvae, grubs and a few insects. Slugs and snails carry lungworm, deadly to all mammals, including hedgehogs. If you see

Solomon and Marshall have finished their course of ringworm treatment baths but still have a few stubborn mange scabs. Normally I would soften them by the daily application of Thursdays Plantation Tea Tree cream, but Solomon in particular hates the smell, so here I'm using pure

There are still lots of late born hoglets being seen out in the day. Please remember these little babies are sick. They are starting to die so have come out in the day as their failing bodies become hypothermic. No amount of warmth, love, or food will fix them. They need

Only here 10 days, but Sweet Wallis is already starting to feel a lot better. The soothing treatment baths have reduced her skin irritation, and the analgestic/anti inflammatory drugs I am giving her have worked wonders on her poor swollen face. The effects of her malnutrition

Just a quick update on poor baby Solomon. After a worrying 5 days of not eating and losing weight nightly, this dear little boy now has the strength to get his legs under him and walk, and is eating a little and slowly gaining weight. Hedgehogs are such expert little survivors.

Gosh, I'm so touched by the incredible outpouring of love and good wishes. Thank you so much for all your beautiful heartfelt messages - some of which made me cry! (in a good way). I'm sure you understand why I haven't have time to reply to them all, but I have read them and each

This poor darling girl is Wallis, mum to her boys Solomon and Marshall (see previous 2 posts). Although older, so more fortitude to withstand deprivation, her mange-bared skin is sore and her eyes swollen to slits. She also has deadly lungworm. This dear little family, teetering
