A lot of game devs are dunking on this, but if you're not a game dev it's probably not actually obvious why. So I thought I'd take a moment to answer a little more thoughtfully in hopes of giving gamers a little more insight on what we do.
the yellow paint is so unnecessary obviously a ladder is climbable obviously a crate is breakable why did they do this

Accessibility may seem daunting, but by listening to experts in the field and the lived experiences of players, it affords disabled individuals the opportunity to play some of this year’s best games, and by proxy, makes games better for everyone. https://t.co/8JVaI09aBE

Let’s make the web accessible for everyone. Listen to your customer and respect their preferences. Provide them with settings to improve their experience. #a11y #gaming #webdevelopment

Respect user font and size preference, animations or lack of, video auto play? Hate it or love it but you choose. Imagine being able to stop the rotating ads or all of them without having to use a 3rd party plugin. Imagine if we’re able to choose.

It is mostly about presenting the “right” information to the customer using AI algorithms that know what we want. But imagine if personalization referred to customer being able to choose how they like to “navigate” on the web.

Gamers are allowed to personalize their game experience by modifying the difficulty. In web when we talk about personalization we only talk about marketing, campaigns, related products, cross sell you name it.

What No Man’s Sky (a survival game) did in their latest update was listening to the community. Players have asked for many’s years to have settings that allow them to customize the difficulty settings at will Some call them quality of life improvements, others a barrier removal

In this case he was referring to accessibility being more than just a button that you press and suddenly your product / game is accessible. Accessibility is more than you think. It's a result of a series of decisions that has to come early and by many team members in the program

No Man’s Sky new update has difficulty settings that are accessibility related but they are not. A phrase that stuck with me during @D_M_Gregory presentation at #a11yTOgaming is “accessibility is not a menu” Start of thread... #a11y #gaming #webdevelopment
