Using strategies from Building Thinking Classrooms, students use vertical non permanent surfaces and randomized groupings to encourage more discussions and collaboration in math!

Ss began learning about computational thinking, with a focus on pattern recognition & decomposition. Ss were able to play the game Cluemaster in small groups to practice their logic and deductive reasoning while looking for patterns and breaking down problems into smaller parts.

Third graders have been learning about probability and fairness with the Game Factory Interact Unit. At the end of the unit, they will use the knowledge learned to design their own game! @HanoverSchools

Second graders demonstrated their understanding of point of view in the story Creepy Carrots. Students wrote a passage from the point of view of the carrots, and recorded their writing using ChatterPix. 🥕

Fourth graders began thinking like scientists! Students were able to create a dichotomous key for classifying candy as a class, then they began working in small groups to create a key to classify shells!

Would you rather have 1 elephant or 440 Corgis?? This may sound like nonsense, but these 4th graders used https://t.co/XloieZGHGE to help them MAKE SENSE of their measurement skills! They had a blast estimating & interpreting numbers based on US customary units.

1st Gr worked on how choosing the right strategy can help make problem solving easier. After rolling a target number, Ss dice to reach that target using addition. Ss discussed which strategy would allow them to reach the finish faster! Future problem solvers in 1st grade!
