This week I'm seeing my undergraduate students again in person here in Cambridge for the first time since March. I've found it moving & heart-lifting to be back with them after so long, after such a time, & am truly grateful to be teaching again, even under COVID-constraints.

On Thursday the 300-year-old Hunningham Oak near Leamington was felled for HS2. It’s not even on the main rail-route—it was chainsawed for a service road. This oak began its life around the time Daniel Defoe published Journal of a Plague Year.
