Until then, the responsibility falls on us — movements, communities, and local leaders — to resist repression and protect democracy. Dissent is not terrorism. Political opposition is not a crime.

We cannot allow COINTELPRO 2.0 to take root. Even as the government is shut down, we must be clear: when Congress reconvenes, it must launch oversight, pass safeguards, and defend free speech and organizing rights.

This isn’t about safety. It’s about consolidating power and silencing dissent. We’ve seen this before: COINTELPRO, McCarthyism — governments using fear to crush movements for justice.
