"Trust teachers." "Let us make our own curriculum!" I trust them enough to know many'll run themselves in the ground trying to create 180 days of curriculum to meet students needs. Don't let vocal, well-meaning enthusiasts keep you from picking materials that work and are usable.

Great article from David Margulies! "Too many kids are struggling in math. We can solve that by getting back to basics." https://t.co/t4ja0CISxu

With how easy it is to get distracted today, teach kids that those who can focus will dominate every sector. Reading sharpens focus.

Who Controls the Supply of Doctors? The US government pays over $30 billion a year for Graduate Medical Education. (+ you pay premiums). The number of funded residency slots has been capped since 1997. Academic Medical Centers (AMCs) control this pipeline. They decide how

True. We won't need a UBI to achieve this.
Soon, we will reach the limit of prosperity with superabundance created by AI and robots. Everyone will have: The best healthcare. Five-star hotels and meals. An AI chauffeur. The best education. Every product and service at maximum quality, reliability, and durability.

This needs to change.
Fifteen years ago, The United States Congress made it illegal for physicians to have ownership in hospitals. Not by accident, by design. A last-minute deal jammed into the Affordable Care Act. A gift to the very health systems that raised prices, consolidated markets, and

Are you wondering why your premiums are high and why non profit health systems keep building new hospital towers? Tax-exempt bonds let nonprofit hospitals borrow at 1-2% lower rates than competitors. Over the life of a $500 million bond, that's tens of millions in savings. Paid

The hospital lobby spent $30 million last year. What were they protecting? → $54B in 340B revenue → $37.4B in tax exemptions → $30B in supplemental payments → $30B in GME funding → Site-neutral payment differentials $125+ billion is worth lobbying for... That's in addition

Want to open a hospital, ambulatory surgery center, radiology center, or nursing home? In 35 states, you need government permission. And the hospital you're competing against gets to object. That's not a free market. That's a cartel with a permission slip.

We had wax lined cups that were safe and got “traded up” to forever chemicals cups. Remember the iconic “Orange and Yellow Flowers” paper cups—those elegant, wax-lined vessels adorned with irises and daffodils, produced by the Sweetheart Cup Company in Owings Mills, Maryland,

Ever notice the price of a flight suddenly jump right after you search it twice? Or how your grocery app “mysteriously” charges you more than your neighbor for the same produce? That’s not just bad luck. It’s surveillance pricing. Today, I introduced a bill to make it

A teacher's love for students is insufficient. Our love must be welded with high expectations and effective teaching grounded in the science of learning.

You can't pick your era; today's fight is literacy. "Ancestors don't need us to cosplay as freedom fighters from their era. They did their job; we have to do ours. You can't put new wine in old wineskins." Told a person this today. Not fun, but needed. I hope it sparks thought.

This is the way. A lot of education discourse avoids mentioning an inconvenient truth… an engaged parent who speaks to their kid early and often about the world around them is far superior to almost any curriculum or school by a magnitude in the early years
Flight from NY to Denver. Mom one row ahead has been speaking to her very young child using sophisticated language from takeoff to touchdown: control tower, aerodynamics, trajectory, manuever. A one-woman, 30-million word gap in action. Impressive.

“…no amount of training pupils to think critically in history has any impact on their ability to think critically in mathematics.” This will be a tough pill for many in the US: we like to believe we’re teaching transferable critical thinking. Nope—that’s not how thinking works.
Today, @Civitas_UK releases a collection of essays on the value of a knowledge-rich curriculum. Here's my chapter titled "Knowledge-rich curricula: A key driver of equity in education"

Upset about high insurance premiums? I am too. Since 1999, worker contributions for family premiums are up 308 percent and total premiums are up 342 percent. Over the same span, wages only climbed 119 percent and inflation 64 percent. The premiums aren’t high because of greedy
