If you’ve got a school class that would love to glimpse learning in another time and even take a lesson in our Victorian schoolroom, head to the County Museum website. See more: @worcestermuseum. (3/3).

Subjects included Religion, Morals, Polite Literature, History and Government & Laws - nothing creative. An enlightening quote from Bishop Hurd’s education plan is, ‘The proper learning of a Prince is only such learning as may be applied to use or ornament in that rank.’. (2/3).

👑 Did you know about the Castle’s ties with educating royalty? Our learning goes beyond the Victorian schoolroom!. Bishop Hurd actually tutored the sons of King George III – the Prince of Wales (later King George IV) and Prince Frederick – from 1776 to 1780. (1/3)

Find out more about her in our audio guide on your next visit. Mrs Charles-Edwards and her actions were instrumental in our past, as @HeritageFundUK and National Lottery players’ support are in our present. Thanks to so many people, we can look to the Castle’s future ❤️. (4/4)

Other plans included demolishing the North Wing or converting it into luxury flats, so we wouldn’t be here today without this pair. As Mrs Charles-Edwards said, “It’s no use being sentimental about a place like this unless you can be practical at the same time.”. (3/4)

They suggested dividing the Castle into a three-purpose building:. @worcestermuseum's County Museum moved into the North Wing, the State Rooms were opened for visitors, events and meetings, and the rest was converted into a smaller home and offices for the Bishop 🏰. (2/4)

It’s #HeritageTreasures Day! We’re telling the story of how Mrs Louise Charles-Edwards helped rescue the Castle in the 60s. Wife of Mervyn Charles-Edwards (Bishop of Worcester 1956-70), they kept the Castle intact when the Church Commissioners would no longer maintain it. (1/4)

The finished piece is a valuable part of our collection. We love how it stands out and reminds us of Bishop Goodrich, who was known for his charm and involvement in the community. And, not forgetting the rather interesting pairing in the artist and the gardener👩‍🎨. (4/4).

Peter got to wear the beautiful ceremonial cope and chat with the artist, Maggi Hambling. She's now likely best known for her public sculptures, such as her four-metre scallop on Aldeburgh beach, Suffolk! 🐚. She even offered Peter some sketches which he sadly didn’t take. (3/4).

This was due to the long process of the sitting and how bitterly cold the Great Hall was in winter ❄️. Peter lived in one of the Castle cottages and was close with the Bishop, who specially christened his son, often babysat his children and supported his family. (2/4).

Have you heard the story behind this unusually colourful portrait in the Great Hall? 🎨 . Bishop Goodrich (Bishop of Worcester from 1982 to 1996) sat as his head and hands were carefully recreated, but Castle gardener Peter Wright took over for the rest!. (1/4)
