On Friday, 5 Harmony students received recognition at David Geffen Hall for their scholarships to Interlochen Arts Camp. On Saturday, 3 of our students performed at the Interlochen Partner Performance. We are grateful to our partners at the Pinkerton Foundation and Interlochen!

Our choirs (PS 315K here) learned “Follow the Drinking Gourd” this Black History Month. This song is about the escape north by African-American slaves prior to the Civil War. The Drinking Gourd is another name for the Big Dipper, which helped guide enslaved people towards freedom

Starting with the fundamentals, and this week's lesson is on rhythm. Learning rhythm through clapping helps solidify the beat in your body without having to worry about the other technical aspects learned in music making.

Finishing off our Top 10 moments of 2022, and coming in at #1 is our growth! We tripled our student population in 2022, reaching children in early grades and providing instruction during the school day, afterschool and online. We can’t wait to see what 2023 has in store!

Our # 3 spot is goes to our 2022-2023 All Stars Orchestra! This group has been practicing two hours a week since October, and their winter concert two weeks highlighted their musical growth and development. We can't wait to hear them again in the spring!
