The Vienna Dioscurides, or Juliana Codex, was written around 1,500 years ago in what is now Istanbul. Over the centuries the book was added to by Arabic scholars, but it wouldn't be for hundreds of years that these annotations were finally translated. Watch to find out more ๐

3 years of researching the forgotten Arabic and Persian additions to a 6th century plant manuscript, and our work is finally published on the @NHM data portal.
John Hunnex & @HanoufAlawi have been investigating Arabic & Persian additions to plant descriptions in the Codex Vindobonensis, a 6th century pharmaceutical compendium. The dataset is here: https://t.co/3KDyF7BC0N; you can read about their project here:
