Flock cameras are back in the headlines, and not in a good way. We called it, and now the stories are flying in. [[call]] [[boost]] Show Notes: Insideā¦

I'm running both HA and Mosquitto in Docker containers on a Pi CM4 with 2GB RAM and an SSD.

straightforward. There were two wrinkles: 1. HA really wants you to format the payload as JSON. 2. I do have to manually edit the config entries to "import" the desired values. The latter is tedious, perhaps not necessary if the built in broker is used.

2. Linux programs that publish readings write to standard out and pipe to mosquitto_pub. 3. Format MQTT payloads as JSON for easy decoding in HASS. Duck soup! 2/2

They switched to Raspberry Pis. Still got hit by Crowdstrke but not their shop floor Pis.

This kind of gaslighting really calls into question your objectivity. I hope Stericycle paid a lot because I prefer to think that this kind of PR is not cheap.

I'm sure that one could learn what one needs to know in a year of focused effort, but the trade organizations lobby the state legislators to enforce restrictions to keep the supply of tradesmen low enough to insure higher wages. (And cheap apprentice labor.)

About a year ago I tried to sign up for a developer account and get a free (as in beer) copy of RHEL. I kept going in circles and down blind alleys and finally just gave up. I'm not smart enough to be a RH dev. I downloaded Alma and ran that in KVM/QEMU.

Also your password reset function is broken. It keeps telling me that my email is already in use (duh!) and throws me back to the captcha.

This may be my last post here. As soon as I get a request for money, I'm gone.

PS: Odroid H3+ - $165, no RAM, no storage, no PSU. Sure it's better than a Pi at close to double the price.

I don't share your pessimism here. And I'm not convinced that active cooling is required until I test one. (I have the official active cooler + Pi 5/8GB + official PSU ordered.) best,

Regarding alternatives - I feel it's a bit disingenuous to compare a new Pi with a used Intel PC. Searching Amazon I find the GMKtec Mini PC for $140 (8GB RAM and 128GB storage.) A "Beelink Mini S12 Mini PC" is priced the same with 256GB PCIe x1 storage.

Staggered release? Every product is released in batches. The company is just being transparent. And of course the "track record over the last couple of years" affected almost everything. Props to them for favoring the faithful and hobbyist before industry.

H264 & VP9 decoding. Agreed. I wonder if it might come with an update.

eMMC storage - would be nice. Probably will come on the CM5. SD storage? I've been running some Pis for years, 24x7 off SD cards. Some really cheap cards have failed and one "quality" card has failed.

Power button - with three GPIO connections and a line in config.txt a power button could be implemented on previous Pis. On the Pi 5 they probably use the IO chip.
