Some children started out with parents fulfilling this role of curating and sharing “just right” books; some children did not. School librarians strive to bridge this divide. Building relationships is key-it impacts attitudes, which impacts behaviours, which impacts development.

Book choice, for children to read outside of curriculum time, is incredibly nuanced & goes beyond mere ability. So many experiential and psychological factors come into it. Expert librarians take time to eventually & hopefully discover the right books for individual students.

How do they define library lessons?.Learning to read requires expert teachers of reading. That is neither the role of the librarian nor the purpose of the library. They are related but distinct.

Re: Ofsted English subject report and school libraries . Are we ever able to get it right?!. Students don’t like reading=school’s fault . Avid readers=school can’t take credit
