It was an honor to speak with @amandaknox abt the many ways munchausen by proxy can manifest. @GypsyRose_B’s brave story has made more ppl aware of the issue, but this abuse is often much more subtle, & that’s a message worth shouting to the media—we are people, not plot devices
It turns out, Munchausen by proxy is often a lot more subtle than in cases like Gypsy Rose Blanchard's. I interviewed Dr. Kari Nixon for the latest episode of #Labyrinths. https://t.co/D1yQ9k85L8

using the interview for both my written article and a series of social media posts featuring the experts' responses. My deadline for this piece is the end of November, and I am hoping to see if you would be available for next week short, recorded video interview ? /3

their platforms. I am working on a year-end round-up piece that looks forward to 2025 and addresses what experts foresee as the misinformation trends and challenges in the year ahead. We would like to meet with select experts on a recorded video call for approx 10-15 min /2

Trying to decide if modern rap is more reliant on synecdoche or metonym…. 🤔 which would be easier if I could ever remember the difference between the two 😅

having an ex best friend is such a specifically heartbreaking experience because it was possibly longest relationship you were ever in. and then they......turn into an actual stranger? and at one point they called you 17x a day. like, i know your brother's birthday still.

I encourage you to read there follow up interview with me on munchausen by proxy in the wake of gypsy rose blanchard’s release from prison
After Gypsy Rose Blanchard's release from prison this December, I caught up with the same survivor to find out how the high profile case made her feel - and the thoughts she had seeing that a fellow survivor had been driven to murder. @theipaper

Last year I interviewed a Munchausen by proxy survivor whose mother faked her illness and kept her on morphine through childhood and teenage years. @theipaper

Katy, 37, spent her childhood on a cocktail of opioids for her chronic health conditions. After she left home, she discovered that she'd never been ill

6 yo sassed me BAD tonight. Repeatedly in a 30 second period. Partner calmly asked her, “what part of that did you think was a good idea?” I SWEAR TO CHRIST ON THE CROSS that child looked him dead in the eye and said: “all of it.” I am fucking slain. 💀💀💀

toxic masculinity is a menace. (no pun intended.) patriarchal dominance crap. antidote? the mature masculine. the mature masculine. self aware, emotionally available, respectful of women. in reverence with creation.

Tbt that time when, instead of writing a final essay for grad school, I spent an entire day teaching my dog Desdemona to play dead at the sight of a handkerchief. Worth it.

Reader, I did not leave. Instead, I decided to be kind to everyone, and not care about how important they were in terms of ranking. And I always am kindest to grad students. See? It really is that easy.

anyway, after he made me cry that day, the first day I learned how brutal the Academy can be, I decided if Academia was going to turn me into that, I would leave.

no, probably not, because he absolutely ascribed to the type of Academia where people's value is attached to their academic rank. and at the time I was a nobody. So I didn't register or matter to him until I was important in socially validated ways. My eyes can't roll enough

Of all the podcast interviews I’ve ever done, I think this is the one I’m proudest of. @amandaknox’s unique life experiences give her an incisive ability to cut to the heart of complex issues, and helped me be my most articulate self about a complex issue

And by coincidence, I also happened to get in contact with another woman who's experienced Munchausen by proxy, Dr. Kari Nixon (@HalfSickShadows), and who went on to study how illness impacts identity. It's a topic she pursued before even realizing that she herself was a victim.
