It's because old Halo games 1 through ODST were more stylized and anime esque in design where Reach and above became more realistic with more modern western SciFi. I always preferred the old style. I never cared for Reach and above and I consider Reach the start of the downfall.

Amazing art style combined with incredibly talented engineers who knew how and what they wanted to do with the engine at hand. Crafted a game that IMO will never look bad and thanks to the ports to powerful hardware making 4k possible it looks better then ever dreamed back in 07
