my heart is hurting. rest in power Khalifah Williams, may Allah grant you eternal happiness in the akhirah and may your grave be a window to heaven, ameen. let the 24th September be a reminder to honour Khalifah and the countless Black men legally lynched before him.

We are outraged and deeply saddened by the killing of two beloved members of the UNHCR family and extend our deepest sympathies to their families. The protection of civilians is a must, in line with obligations under international humanitarian law. https://t.co/tLyProntl3

His name is Khaliifah Williams, we owe it to him to use it. his name will not be forgotten or overshadowed by this white supremacists engulfed land that refuses to treat our kin like human beings.

Tonight, our legal system tragically failed Marcellus “Khaliifah” Williams for the final time. The state of Missouri executed Mr. Williams in a horrific display of inhumanity, despite compelling evidence of his innocence. Tonight, we mourn his loss and honor his legacy.

The execution of Marcellus Williams is a horrible injustice. This didn’t have to happen. Just a couple weeks ago, prosecutors—with the support of the victim’s family—had reached a plea agreement with Marcellus that took death off the table.

Sending so much love to him and his family.
“Khaliifah is a kind and thoughtful man, who spent his last years supporting those around him in his role as Imam. We will remember him for his deeply evocative poetry and his love for and service to his family and his community … The world will be a worse place without him,"

“there is so much beauty and comfort in being in love and just being… / – amidst sounds of buzzing / chirps / crickets / the pleasant but irregular blowing of the wind” 24 years on death row, Marcellus Williams says poetry is a lifeline. Read @innocence:

Some of his most meaningful pieces are the ones he writes to support and remember others facing execution.

Absolutely reprehensible that the state of Missouri is so close to executing Marcellus Williams, an innocent man: this can't be allowed to happen
"It's outrageous that Missouri is so close to executing Marcellus Williams," @helenprejean wrote. "He was convicted at a trial where prosecutors intentionally struck at least one Black person from the jury pool ... His DNA is not on the murder weapon."
