Just closed out a holiday weekend retreat with the Hue Crew - we engaged in honest conversations about our next steps, conducted workshops in @figma, and cut up with each other while reminding ourselves that joy is paramount in this journey of serving our community 🙏🏾✊🏾

Every time I go to a #publishing event people approach me saying they can’t find Black Illustrators 🫣 so BIPOC illustrators tap in I’m looking for a few BIPOC illustrators for another #indiepublisher. If your #commissions are open or if you know any #bipocillustrators 🙏🏾tag 👇🏾

Books are one of the healthiest things to collect “obsessively”. And if you do get “too many” of them, you can gift or lend to others like your personal library. Gotta love it.

Kinda embarrassing to admit, but not one person came to my Atlanta tour event. Instead of being bummed about it I’ve decided to focus on being grateful that I get to do this work. Let’s thank the bookstore & order all 50 copies they have of my books! https://t.co/sx5iz5tNh3

not all feedback is constructive or valuable. some feedback can be demoralizing, can be harmful. through understanding, learning and growth, we get to be more discerning about what we keep and integrate, and what we leave behind and disavow.

One person can make all the difference. And things can go either way. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. No matter how small your action is, it can have a huge impact on the world. Every step you take, no matter how small, is an important one and can result in a big change.

We want to thank every single speaker, sponsor, benefactor, and attendee who has contributed to centering Black joy in our environment - we couldn't have reached this point without every single one of you believing in us and we aren't taking that for granted.

We're not leaving you hanging though! We'll be sending the recordings of last year's summit to our mailing list. We also plan to do some smaller events, leading up to the Summit in 2023.

We're forecasting how hybrid events can work, how our offerings can grow, and how we can partner with the aforementioned groups to build a Black design ecosystem to reach our shared goal of celebrating, growing, teaching, and learning together.

With that said, in order to build the structure necessary to sustain this work, we're taking a break from the Summit this year.

Everybody has been doing their best to bridge that gap in the face of this pandemic; this virtual space we all work within has made it clear how much more inclusive we can be of people's time, space, abilities, and how we should have been long before this moment.

A couple months ago, we conducted a virtual retreat to better articulate our vision and mission and reiterated to ourselves the original goal of conducting this work in physical spaces to bring a new paradigm to what a "design meetup" is.
