My mother served as a World War II Army nurse, treating wounded soldiers in New Guinea. She was very proud of her service.
Nurses played outsized roles in World War II, saving lives and comforting patients both at home and abroad. Some were killed by enemy fire while others spent years as prisoners of war. A coalition of retired nurses say time is running out to honor them.
