Unpopular opinion:
D&D is actually pretty good.
I *like* it, and there are few systems I've liked better than it in 23 years in the hobby trying loads and loads of other systems.
I don't feel beholden to any company, setting or lore, but I do *like* D&D the way I play it.

I HATE the current narrative in Tabletop circles that players are "The Bosses" and GMs are their "Employee". That's part of why I hate "pro GMs" so much: Play because you want to play.
Every part of this hobby will be junked and sold for scrap if we do not speak up.

There's no *Wrong* Way to play D&D, but take it from a 23 year veteran...the more seriously you take the Game at the Table, and less seriously you take the game away from it, the more rewarding it will become. So many dissatisfied players, because they have flipped the two.

Yeah, I really like classic, smaller scale games, but don't think for a second I'm telling anyone what to do at THEIR table. Just saying you can run games however you like.

Artists know what they are doing. The more "hands off" you are, the higher quality your commissions will be.
Simple, clear "genre" guidelines are usually enough for most artists.

Hey, if you use AI ART in your TTRPG books, or intend to/continue, PLEASE let collaborators know. I don't feel comfortable working on projects with AI Generated content. Also it helps us know who's trying to make a quick buck and who's trying to grow the hobby.

The age of the influencer needs to end. It's not *bad* to have followers, not bad to gain an audience, but the "personality" driven promotion cycle needs to have its reckoning. Microcelebrities on short, corporate sponsored leashes isn't good for the hobby.

Rpgs can be therapeutic, can be a release, can be a place to deeply connect to others or one's self, can be used to explore gender, expression, sexuality...but GMs are NOT therapists and its not a sub for actual therapy.

If you're a GM, don't be afraid AT ALL to slap down 'YES AND' and hit'em with a 'NO BUT' as many times as is necessary.
You are a referee, interpreting rules and making rulings...
The player agency comes from having those necessary foundations.

The current state of Tabletop is really, really good.
Inclusion, safety, and communication are at an all-time high, and that's wonderful to see. People are overwhelmingly comfortable, safe, and welcome at so many different tables. I can't describe how that feels as a 20+ yr vet.

We need to take a hard look at why, as a hobby, we've seen such a hard pivot away from "seriousness" at our tables. Game tone trends sillier and sillier, and while that is ABSOLUTELY fine for any table, I'm baffled by the sheer amount of joke characters, comedy focused games...

We should really try hard to separate "fantastical Europe/Asia/Middle-East" from our fantasy and instead draw water from selfcreated wells. Using the ancient world as springboard is fine, but too often, it is used by weird Race science nerds to justify or build in weird stuff

I run, design and play pretty much exclusively LOW MAGIC, LOW TECH, LOW LEVEL games. I've ran and had a BLAST with wild, quirky, goofy stuff in the past and hope to again, but THAT IS WHERE I FIND MY JOY.
As long as everyone at the table agrees, THERE IS NO WRONG WAY TO PLAY.

Expecting everyone to bring food/drink EVERY WEEK is actually sort of a garbage expectation. I've literally had to leave groups before because I couldn't afford a potluck dish every week. Bringing snacks/ to share is fine,but like...yeah. 😒
