That's it for this thread. Hope it gave y'all some insight on modding from the perspective of the modder. Mods are works of art themselves that take hundreds of dedicated hours to make, and I'd hope you respect the people improving your experience!

Because I really do not want to make paid mods. I want everyone to be able to use my mods, regardless of their age, region, monetary status, or anything else. Creativity should NOT be locked behind a paywall!

Also, Supporter isn't going to last forever, and has actually already been axed. I finally got employment this autumn, which means I am no longer financially dependent on donations, and can soon make all of BE free for everyone again.

And BetterEdit also literally costs money to maintain, since I have servers for it! Granted, those servers are currently only used for supporter features, but they are intended to be used for free stuff aswell.

Now of course, I am not doing any of this for money. I am doing this because I enjoy every aspect of it. However, when you're struggling to find work and the government just slashed your subsidies in half, you can't really spend 10 hours on payless hobbies.

I think the price of one (1) mod having three (3) optional paid features is somewhat acceptable when that mod funds the continued existence of the entirety of the rest of the modding community.

I know this sounds entitled, but the entire GD modding community simply would not exist if I hadn't spend years making Geode. This isn't hyperboly from a narcissistic project leader; I am the single biggest contributor to the code by a long mile.

BE Supporter was also not just a way to fund BetterEdit, but also all of my modding projects, the most important of which is Geode, whose lead developer I've been since being one of its founders years ago.

Most GD players may be young teenagers, but I'm soon to be 22 years old. I'm a student living in my own apartment who has to feed himself, and as such every significantly time-consuming hobby like modding has to be financially justified.

The thing is that making mods takes a lot, a LOT of time to learn and master. If it was easy, you could just recreate the paywalled features yourself!

First of all, I am not trying to make a living off GD mods. That would be very silly and quite miserable. BE Supporter was a temporary solution to a hard living situation that is luckily now passing.

I actually agree with this tweet, but as the developer of the pictured mod, I want to give a bit of context to clear things up🧵
