The 31 people evacuated from Amsterdam Island (FT/Z) on the SAPMER L’Austral fishing vessel were transferred this morning to the Marion Dufresne vessel. The operation, which lasted an hour and a half, took place in difficult sea and weather conditions but in complete safety.

Here are the first images taken of the fire on the island of #Amsterdam (FT/Z) in the @TAAFofficiel which broke out yesterday. 31 personnel from the base evacuated on a fishing boat. The fire started in the peatlands and could burn for weeks.
