Fire Doors having the wrong seals is a common theme, where they have been installed with the incorrect set. All Fire Doors within escape routes must have a combined seal (Intumescent and Smoke seal). Can you tell which seal is the Intumescent and which seal is a combined?

Welcome to Fire Door Safety Week, Is your door a fire door? You can identify a fire door quickly by either a certificate label (usually on the top of the door) or pegs in the doors (either on the top or on the hanging side) which look like the following pictures. @FDSafetyWeek

This is a great initiative. But will your defibrillator work when needed? We find dead batteries and expired pads during our work with schools. Schools should be checking the battery weekly and have a reminder system in place to replace the pads. @ASCL_UK
Is your school defib is ready to save a life? Register your school defib - it could make a lifesaving difference: https://t.co/4esOkuOmaT Not sure if your defib is registered? Check here: https://t.co/ycMYyK2Jqi Help ensure your defib isn't the missing link. @TheBHF

Ever wondered why fire doors have these blue circular signs on them? The colour and shape tells you it is a mandatory sign - e.g. you must do as it says. This isn't an optional choice. It is a legal requirement - but why? >>

Well-fitting fire doors contain fire for a considerable time. You may be lucky and it exhausts its fuel supply before it breaks out of the compartment/the fire brigade puts it out. If so you may only have a small area looking like this. The rest ready to use in a short timeframe.

So if you see any of these - please release the fire door so it can do its job. You may think that wedge does no harm but it can permanently distort the door. We have seen schools where every door was wedged - when removed <30% closed properly. Fixing this will cost a lot.

Fire doors are designed to fill the opening in a fire resistant compartment. Buildings like schools are made up of lots of compartments. If the door does not close into the frame it will let smoke and fire pass into the next compartment. Smoke can travel faster than you can walk.
