The UK is pleased to welcome the Commonwealth Observation Mission to Bangladesh ahead of Thursday's elections. The UK encourages free, fair, credible, and peaceful elections.

The purchase of the former HMS Enterprise by the Bangladesh Navy is a significant milestone in the 🇬🇧 🇧🇩 maritime partnership. The former Royal Navy Survey Vessel will also offer research opportunities for local universities. I was delighted to join today’s signing ceremony.

So glad to welcome home this year’s Chevening and Commonwealth Scholars from their studies in the 🇬🇧! They have brought back new ideas, fresh perspectives and a passion to make a difference in their communities. Excited to see the impact they will have in Bangladesh. 👏

British High Commissioner @HCSarahCooke met newly appointed Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury yesterday. They discussed shared priorities for strengthening the efficiency and independence of the judiciary, to advance access to justice and rule of law.

The UK is working with @HungerProject to promote community peace and harmony across 🇧🇩. Today I met the faith leaders, women and young people driving this work: reducing tensions, countering misinformation, keeping festivals safe and protecting religious and ethnic minorities.

This evening, we celebrated Bangladesh’s newest Duke of Edinburgh’s International Gold Award holders. Through service, skills development and expeditions, they’ve built character, confidence and given back to their community. Congratulations to all of them on their awards! 🥇

For the first time, Commonwealth nations have designed their own batons to reflect their national culture and heritage. The Bangladesh Baton showcases local life / traditions and the 6 seasons. I’m sure you’ll agree it looks fantastic. ⬇️

We welcomed the King’s Baton to Bangladesh, as part of its journey to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow next summer. Bangladesh will compete in 4 sports at the Games - swimming, gymnastics, athletics and boxing. As a sports lover, it was great to meet some of the athletes!

Great evening at the HSBC Export Excellence Awards 2025. We celebrated Bangladeshi exporters in the Ready Made Garments, semi-conductor design and agri-processing sectors. Huge congratulations to all the winners - you are driving economic growth, innovation and job creation.

This week I took visiting friends to see Bangladesh’s fantastic cultural heritage. We visited the Sonargaon museum and Panam City; saw saree weaving in Tangail; and learned about the Lost Wax Brass craft in Dhamrai. An amazing cultural immersion and I also did some shopping!
