My current bug bear: ACADEMICS, when you do your power system modelling simulations it really matters where you put the wind farms! The present-day distributions wont give you the right answer for 2050 systems!.We need to work harder to narrow down where the farms will be.

The good news: Currently proposed wind farms (the green in the middle panel above) help a lot with the currently faced challenges in wind power variability. The intriguing news: The impacts of climate change are very small compared to the impacts of changing wind distribution!.

Exciting new work from Josh Giddings @_RachelJames @TheCrownEstate and me on how a more distributed UK wind fleet could help:.- reduce persistent low and high generation.- reduce freq and intensity of big wind ramps. - provide more consistent generation.
