The role of social identity in the MATES in Construction suicide prevention program. In this study we look at how social identity, mateship and live experience impact volunteering in the MATES program.

The MHLEPQ is calling for the elimination of seclusion and restraint in the Queensland mental health system. Seclusion and restraint is both a failure of care and limiting basic human rights of consumers.

We have just published a systematic review for the MATES in Construction program. It found the program effective in improving mental health and suicide prevention literacy, improving helping intentions and reducing stigma. Possible reduced suicide rates.

It is fundamentally right but it is something we have been talking about for 15 years and it requires the clinician to give up some power in the relationship and that is hard to come by in a risk focused system.

A4: There will be an increased regulatory focus on the #Psychosocial work environment. Standards and codes of practice will be developed. It will be a workplace health and safety issue like many others requiring management. #ElevateTheConvo.

A3: The main #PsychosocialHazards at work strongly depends on the type of industry and work. For example, in Construction Fly in Fly out work is a significant hazard other workplaces will have different hazards. Task and workplace specific risk assess needed #ElevateTheConvo.

A3: It’s a relief to workplaces they are not responsible for workers mental health and wellbeing, they are only responsible for the #PsychosocialHazards created at work. But smart employers address both. #elevatetheconvo
