The purpose of the GBHS is to preserve the BME Church on Essex St which was built by formerly enslaved folx who arrived in the area via Underground Railroad.

Taking place at the historic Heritage Hall, the students will tour the BME Church building (constructed in 1880) following the performance, learning about the freedom seekers, their descendants, and the vibrant community within the dynamic Essex Street neighbourhood.

Led by Tracy Lee, this program weaves music, storytelling, & an interactive presentation, spanning 200+ years of local history. Highlighting the legacies of Black Canadian settlers who paved the way for future generations, leaving a profound, inspiring impact on ON history.
