Then Black Saturday 💔 173 people died. The scale of the fires 2019/2020 was next level. I'm not far from the Otways and even driving around the region for 12 months it's dry. We do have the best & most incredible firefighters worldwide. And the majority are volunteers 🥹

My 1st memory of fire was Ash Wednesday. I was staying at my Aunt's holiday house with dad & a cousin in Lorne. That sound of the fire coming over the Otway Ranges was terrifying. Watching fire jump over houses. We saved the neighbours house as it was their FT home 🥺

I also will never forget these bushfires. A few of us ran a FB page for emergency accommodation which was non stop putting people in touch with what they needed 💔 The photos were surreal. Tomorrow is of concern to me here in SW Vic Otways, heat and high winds
On this day in 2020 at the height of the NSW bushfires, just to the West of us. Driving home early through smoke (about 3 pm) then seeing the sheep huddled in the middle of a bare drought ravaged paddock, and birds heading away from the fire. I think it started raining a couple
