Pops of colour mark this prolific time of year in the fynbos. Looking forward to sharing the secrets of the fynbos with you on our 4x4 flower safari. This is the Cobralily (Chasmanthe aethiopica), it’s name comes from the ribbed leaves resembling the markings of the Cape Cobra.

The endemic orange breasted sunbird perches on an Erica sessiflora. The fynbos is particularly good for birding due to the sheer variety of flora in the fynbos biome. Explore this birding mecca with our expert nature guides and spot some of the signature species.

Explore the fynbos on a 4x4 flower safari and learn all about the many properties and medicinal uses of these endemic plants. This ‘Suikerbossie’ or ‘Sugarbush’ produces a nectar that was collected and boiled up as a cough syrup by early Dutch settlers. 📷 @Brutanikhul

Even after 20 years of documenting the botanical species on Grootbos, we haven’t found them all. Lockdown provided a great opportunity for field work and our @GrootbosNGOZA conservation team have recorded an additional 26 plant species on Grootbos bringing the total count to 855!
