Some news! I'm endorsing Bonnie Crombie in the upcoming OLP leadership. Lots of great candidates running, all of whom would be a huge improvement as Premier. Bonnie’s competent, strong, inclusive. Importantly I believe she can win. And goodness do we need change in Ontario.

I’m continually grateful to live in a country where we can criticize the government however we want. It’s a privilege so many people around the world don’t enjoy. But high school graduations really aren’t the place for partisanship. Congratulate the students. And do better.

It’s exactly two years since we launched our campaign for the OLP nomination in Peterborough-Kawartha. On my birthday! I’m still so proud of our team and how close we came. No matter the result, this team would have done an amazing job of representing our community. 🙌🙌🙌

There’s also an important election for OLP President. I see lots of potential in all of the candidates, but am supporting @Kathryn_McGarry as someone who can build all our local PLAs into engaged, committed teams that will help us beat the Conservatives. Good luck to all!!!

We need to lead a progressive movement that is rooted in building a better, more caring Ontario. One where we invest in our public healthcare system, protect the environment, and build on the best education system in the country. For Ontario. For those left behind by Doug Ford.

Proud to be on Canada’s delegation to this session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. Returning to my roots! But this means I will miss the @OntLiberal Annual Meeting this weekend, and critical discussions about how to build our party into a force that can win in 2026. 💪

Doug Ford’s conservatives are a disaster for Ontario, full stop. Peterborough deserves so much better. We spent two years trying to make that happen. Great people will run to lead OLP, so this may not be the solution. But darned if I’m not open to bold, progressive ideas.

It was quite a 2022. I’m still SO grateful for all this year brought. Especially the kindness, friendship, and community of our campaign. What a contrast from the deliberate crises in healthcare, education, and climate policy. There is more to do. Soon. Happy 2023! 🎉

I wouldn’t have been the perfect MPP for Peterborough. I’d have tried my best, absolutely. But certainly not perfect. That said, I never would have voted to override workers’ Charter rights. Not once, not ever. ✊

Running for public office is hard. There’s lots of work and scrutiny for an uncertain result. That’s why I’m so impressed with the incredible people who’ve stepped up in Ptbo and beyond. Cheering for you! If you can help a great progressive candidate, please do. And go vote!

And from there, we’ll see. It’s no secret that I believe we need better representation at all levels of government. Suggestions welcome!

In accepting the role, I specifically asked (and was granted) the ability to work from Peterborough part time. Because even though we lost the election, there is still lots of work to do. 💪 I’m going to start by helping where possible on the municipal elections coming up.

I’m definitely still coming to terms with the election. Not for me, but for everyone in Ontario left behind. Yesterday’s speech just reinforced this feeling. What could we have done differently? Because nurses, teachers, families, students, and everyone deserves so much more.

Some news from me! I’ve been asked to return to Global Affairs to work on human rights law. It’s a great opportunity. I’ll get to work on important issues. I feel grateful. But it’s still tough that it’s not the job I worked towards for two years, MPP for Ptbo-Kawartha.

I believe in positive relationships, including among reps from different parties. We should always strive to work together locally. But this is beyond the pale. Unbecoming of an MP. And if Pierre wins, a taste of what may be the nastiest election in Canadian history. Do better.

The morning after and it’s still really tough. Thank you so much for the kind DMs, comments, and messages. I will get to all of them, I promise.❤️ The next four years are going to be hard. For the vulnerable. The marginalized. The climate. Today we mourn. Tomorrow we organize.
