Order 1920 is a big deal. Of course, we are waiting on the final 1300 pages of the rule to dive deeper, but we learned a lot at today’s meeting. It is definitely the biggest @FERC action since the 1990s. I lay out our quick reaction in a new @Breakthrough Newsroom post:

If you’re reading the LPO liftoff report, you should also check out Daniel’s new @Breakthrough Newsroom on how we can overcome policy barriers to deploy innovative grid technologies:
The benefits of High-Performance Conductors are promising. But we need policy support at federal, regional & state levels to deploy at scale. Check out my latest @Breakthrough Newsroom, where I highlight key recommendations to boost this innovative tech:

"Replacing existing power lines with cables made from state-of-the-art materials could roughly double the capacity of the electric grid...making room for much more wind and solar." More on the benefits of advanced reconductoring & GETs in @nytimes ⤵️ https://t.co/z45tOBsA2T

A rarely used technique to upgrade old power lines could play a big role in fixing one of the largest obstacles facing clean energy, two reports found.

"In every country, we need to build new, smarter grids — interstate highway systems for power" We agree! 🙌 More on how @BillGates views transmission as a “decarbonization fast-forward button” in @Breakthrough's 2023 State of the Transition report. https://t.co/zW5CIithGL

@ACORE @NatUrbanLeague @FERC Transitioning the U.S. economy to run on renewable energy also presents perhaps the greatest wealth-creation opportunity since the Industrial Revolution. It is up to us to ensure that it is done in a way that guarantees the benefits are equitably shared. (6/6) #NCA5

@ACORE @NatUrbanLeague @FERC By replacing fossil fuel plants w/affordable, pollution-free clean energy projects, this generation has an opportunity to solve America’s contribution to the global crisis while drastically reducing the inequitable energy burden on Black, Brown and underserved communities. @ACORE @NatUrbanLeague We also teamed up last month in a letter to @FERC encouraging the expeditious completion of a strong final rule on transmission planning and cost allocation. This is critical for enhancing reliability in a just and reasonable manner across the U.S. (4/6)

The National Climate Assessment is an important read on the scope of the climate challenge, and I’m glad to see the new edition covers how Black, Brown and underserved communities are disproportionately impacted. #NCA5 🧵(1/6) https://t.co/F4i12R1uou

Americans should not be forced to endure outages when additional grid capacity would help keep the lights on and reduce power costs. Increased interregional transmission between PJM and MISO can save consumers more than $15 billion.
NEW press release 📣 ACORE and Grid Strategies released a report today that demonstrates how consumers are paying billions of dollars a year due to #transmission constraints between MISO and PJM. And those costs are expected to increase. https://t.co/WxGXkF3Dje

When our outdated grid fails in the face of increasingly frequent severe weather, it is invariably those in disadvantaged communities who suffer the most. @ACORE/@NatUrbanLeague Letter ➡️ https://t.co/QNguU27LDu (2/2)

We are excited to welcome our next keynote speaker, @RepScottPeters. "In this congress, we need to work on speed. We can have all the money in the world, but we’ll still fail if we don’t act faster. There is no transition without #transmission," says Peters. #ACOREGridForum
