This was a huge team effort! Big thanks to the X-less Lauren Enten, Annie DeMarco, Rachel Kline, Charles Nemeroff, Bryan Barksdale, & X-friendly @ManojDoss. Excited to see the next set of papers on amygdala FUS from @NoahSPhilipMD!.

These findings open up new possibilities for non-invasive #brain-based treatment of a whole family of psychiatric disorders characterized by abnormal amygdala function. Though the FUS/fMRI findings were double-blind, we need to replicate clinical effects in an RCT.

There was also an anger-specific attenuation in the left amygdala, nearly overlapping with the region we demonstrated attenuation with concurrent FUS/fMRI. This suggests some of the observed effects may be related to FUS vs. repeated measures/habituation only.

We also probed amygdala function using emotional faces with task-based fMRI in patients before and after daily FUS. We see the expected attenuation in amygdala activation across all task conditions. No comparator, so take it with a grain of salt--but still looks promising!

Quieting the amygdala has been considered by some as the "holy grail" of psychiatric neuromodulation. We tested this in patients by delivering the same FUS protocol once daily for 3 weeks in an open-lablel design using MRI-guided neuronavigation.

Left amygdala inhibition produce notable differences in a transdiagnostic sample of patients with #mood, #anxiety, and #trauma-related disorders, i.e. abnormal evoked effects in the right hippocampus and insula. FUS has utility as a non-invasive probe of subcortical circuitry.

We first began with establishing target engagement using concurrent FUS delivered during fMRI. We targeted the left amygdala and demonstrated an acute inhibition of BOLD signal across patients and healthy controls that was similar in magnitude.

Our focused ultrasound (FUS) #neuromodulation paper now out in @molpsychiatry! Low-intensity FUS attenuates #amygdala fMRI BOLD signal. Broad therapeutic effects in patients with once-daily FUS. Next up, the RCT!. Thanks to @OneMindOrg, who funded this!.

The manager of the hotel could not even tell me what the detector is measuring, nor when it was last calibrated. Absolute predatory practice. I didn't even know about the charge until I got an automated credit card alert. I had to go inquire about it. Terrible, terrible hotel.
