We always talk about how stretched, short staffed we are. Which is obviously true. I just want to recognize and shout out everyone still on the front lines in healthcare, day in and day out picking up the slack. ššš

Great take on the inter-connectivity of the system. What happens in the emerg does not stay in the emergā¦
R/T @CBCQueensPark: āIt's pretty difficult, challenging timesā¦Theā¦sickness level of our patients is far higher than it has ever beenā¦our hospital is running well over 100 per centĀ capacity pretty much every day." https://t.co/KtQn5xLZS6

Noticing an increasing number of unfilled family medicine positions in the #CARMS2022 match. For anyone that has not matched in the first round and is considering #FamilyMedicine please do not hesitate to direct message me here on Twitter and I am happy to chat.

Best of luck to everyone in the #CARMS2022 match! Two things: 1. Your identity is more diverse and robust than where you match. 2. Residency is > med school and staff life is > residency. Lots to look forward to!

Itās a good time to remind myself and others that the vast, vast majority of Canadians support healthcare workers wholeheartedly.

We deal with blood, guts, resuscitation, end of life, babies, elderly, having difficult conversations, saving lives on little to no sleep sometimes. You canāt intimidate us, we are built of stronger stuff.

Healthcare workers went to work for two years despite a novel, deadly virus. We left our cars on the highway to walk to work in a blizzard to treat all comers. We will continue to treat patients in our scrubs despite the fringe threats and traffic inconvenience

Shout out to all of the medical students applying to #CARMS2022 today. The match result does not define you and every residency program has pros and cons. Enjoy the ride because the days are long but the years are short! @CaRMS_CA

someone needs to give @ASPphysician a nobel prize or the Canadian equivalent. The weekly emails are incredibly informative and balanced. The stamina to keep going is inspiring. If you don't subscribe you should: https://t.co/NNcp70kuRV

My take on breaks/vacations.. you either: A) schedule them, look forward to them and truly enjoy them. Or, B) donāt schedule, become overtired, burnt out and āneedā a vacation to recover, which is less enjoyable. Either way - everyone needs a break.

Despite the fact this feels insurmountable and like it will never end.. Today, Iām grateful to use my knowledge and skill to be a part of the solution and recovery effort.

The mood in the hospital is grim, I wonāt lie. Itās easy to get caught up in the negativity. As a way to combat this, Iām going to externalize one reason why Iām grateful to be a doctor daily. Today, Iām grateful that I get to learn something new literally every day.

Iāll add: 6. Recognize your personal signs of burnout (lack of motivation, less engagement, physical fatigue, insomnia, low mood etc etc) 7. Be unapologetic about taking breaks as needed. 8. Have some fun in life - thatās OK.

Burnout prevention tips: 1. Take vacation.. like real vacation. 2. Pace yourself. 3. Stay off Twitter most of the time. 4. Support network of other doctors. 5. Curiosity - when you have a chance to catch your breath, medicine is so cool.
