The joint letter highlights the urgent need to diversify the Committee’s position and align nominations with international standards, including CEDAW’s General Recommendation No.40 on women’s equal representation in decision-making systems.

We call on States Parties to:.✅ Nominate independent, qualified, and ethical experts.✅ Prioritize gender balance – currently, only 2 of 10 members are women.✅ Ensure open and transparent national selection processes.✅ Promote diversity of background, region, and expertise.

As the 2025 elections to the UN Committee Against Torture approach GQUAL, alongside @amnesty, @apt_geneva , @FIACAT_org, @IRCT, @ISHRglobal, @Omega_RF, REDRESS, and @omctorg, urge States Parties to ensure transparent, independent, and gender-balanced nominations.
